Book Fair/Grandparent Lunches

Grandparents, parents, or special friends may come eat lunch with their student and visit the book fair as soon. Our class’s lunch time is 11:14-11:45. Please have your child back to their activity class by 11:45. If an adult is unable to attend lunch, you may send money in with your child (cash or check payable to RBES PTO - 7% sales tax included) for your child to shop on their own (with volunteer help). Additionally, our class will have a special “shopping time” on Tuesday, March 13th from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM. You may meet us in the library during that time to shop with your child or send in cash/check for your child to shop with a volunteer. The book fair will also be open on Tuesday, March 13th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM for the Ice Cream Social and STEAM Night.
**Please remember that first grade will be at a field trip all day on March 15th, so we will not be able to go to the book fair or have grandparents for lunch that day.

STEAM Night
Calling All STEAMists! Tuesday, March 13 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, Rocky Branch will be hosting  our STEAM Night, Book Fair, and Ice Cream Social. This may be an activity from your profession or a STEAM activity that interests you. You may bring in STEAM materials from your profession to have students use, plan a short STEAM activity for students to complete, or show a short 5 minute STEAM demonstration for students.
If you are willing to participate in our STEAM night, please complete the form below. Feel free to email Angela Harris, aharris@oconeeschools.org, with any questions.

All students can wear costumes for the play.  Speaking roles have a specific animal, or something close to it, that they will need to be, but everyone else can choose a forest animal/bird to be if they would like.  I have several animal masks and hats, but if you would like to make your own, please feel free!

And a quick recap of times:

Next Thursday: Shows at 9:00 AM and 10:15 AM (for students and grandparents if they would like), evening show at 7 PM (for all)

Please keep working on lines for speaking roles - www.tinyurl.com/firstgrademusical  --- click on BWOTM Script

All the kids are doing a GREAT job!  I can't wait for you to see the show!

Thank you!

Character Education Survey
Each year, committees of teachers work to analyze our programs and how we can continuously improve to provide the very best for students. This year, several teachers are looking at the recommendations from our last National Character Visit and developing a plan for the future. As part of that work, they want your input regarding our character initiative: specifically the implementation of the ROCKETS' Way. We would GREATLY appreciate you taking a few moments to complete the survey below. Your input is important and appreciated!! Click Here to Complete Survey.

Thank you so much for helping donate Hershey's Kisses for the students to
sell for Relay for Life. The students have made advertisements, prepared
announcements for the morning broadcast, participated in selling the kisses
(counting money and change), calculated how much money we have raised and
determined how far we are from our goal, and kept up with a graph to monitor
our progress. They have worked so hard and have been involved in some real,
authentic learning. I am so proud of them and the empathy that they are
developing for others!
First Grade PBL
As a part of our grade level service learning project, we are collecting soda tabs for
the Ronald McDonald House all year. Send tabs in at any time in a plastic bag, and we
will do the rest!
Valentine’s Day Party
Our class will distribute valentines during our party on February 14th. Each child is
invited to create their own “Valentine Mailbox” at home and bring it in between 2/13 and 2/14
for their classmates to deliver valentines. If your child would like to participate in the valentine
exchange, please be sure they have a valentine for every child in the class. We have 20
students. I sent out a class list if your child would like to address valentines personally. If
not, “To Friend” works well too!

Thank you to the parents who signed up to send in items for our class celebration!
