March 13 - 17, 2017

March 13th-17th
Here’s a peek at next week!

Phonics Family Words: rainbow, cupcake, butterfly, ladybug, friendship, sailboat, starfish, cowboy, sunflower, goldfish

Phonics: compound words

Reading: Daily 5 with emphasis on beginning, middle, and ending. We will be finding evidence in text to support answer and retelling the story. What was the author's purpose? This week we will be reviewing skills we have already learned. (Text features and comprehension strategies)

L.Arts:  We will focus on compound words, synonyms and antonyms.

Writing Workshop: Students have been exposed to all genres of our first grade standards. This week we will begin to review opinion writing and look at how we can improve upon what we already know about opinion writing. We will focus on elaboration.

Math: Students will review double digit adding and subtracting during Number Talks. We will focus on measurement this week. We are looking at comparing different lengths. On Friday, students will get to build on their graphing skills as we graph Lucky Charms and analyze our findings.

Science: Students will investigate different animal habitats. They will learn about rainforests, wetlands, oceans, arctic and desert. We will look at what animals need to survive in each area and why other animals from other habitats would not be able to live there. Ex: A polar bear would not be able to survive in the desert.
Positive Discipline: We are continuing to focus on finding solutions to our problems so we can take ownership of our behavior and actions.

2. Reading Passage – “Music Class” and Scholastic News

Calling All 1st Grade Parents!

Ms. Granger needs volunteers to help with the 1st Grade Musical, "Lemonade!"  Help is needed with the scenery and costumes for this performance.  Workdays to help with scenery will take place on the following days:

Monday, March 13
Thursday, March 16

If you are able to help, please come to the Art & Music rooms from 2:30-4:00 pm.  Children are welcome, and they can even help, so you can write a note for any school-aged children to stay after school on any day you are able to work.  You may want to bring your child a snack for after school.

Please contact Lindsey Pollack at LHPollack@hotmail.com with any questions or if you are able to help in any capacity!  Thank you!

It is time for the RBES Spring Book Fair!  The dates for this exciting event are March 9, and 13-17. The Book Fair will be open March 9 and 13-16 from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM, Tuesday night from 6-8 during the STEAM Night/Ice Cream Social, and on Friday, March 17 from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Grandparents and special friends are invited to lunch and the Book Fair any day, March 9 and Monday-Thursday, March 13-16. The Book Fair provides students, parents, grandparents, and special friends an excellent opportunity to purchase great books that your children will love to read.  This is also a wonderful way to help support the RBES Media Center.  All proceeds go directly to the RBES Media Center.
We need volunteers!  Please go to SignUp.com to sign up! http://signup.com/go/Ja4eiX
